Homepage Forecast data for solar and wind in Belgium and Flanders

Motivation: took a look at daily and monthly fluctuation of solar and wind forecasts data in Belgium, and decided to visualize these.

This page links to forecast data of photo-voltaic (PV) solar and wind energy for Belgium. Forecast data is used by the electricity grid operator to anticipate fluctuations in wind and solar energy, typically for intervals of one quarter of an hour. This is done to balance production and consumption of electricity on the grid. Here we do not publish forecast data upfront. Instead we use historical forecast data to visualize daily and seasonal fluctuations of wind and solar energy. We use forecast data from following providers:

in Belgium from Elia, the Belgian electricity transmission system operator.
in Belgium/Flanders using data published by VEKA (Vlaams Energie- en Klimaatagentschap). Similar information is also available from Elia for Flanders, with as main difference that for most years the monitored solar and onshore wind capacity from VEKA is more extensive for Flanders.
in Belgium/Wallonia using data published by SPW-energie, using a similar representation as VEKA for Flanders.

In general forecast data is more accurate than weather re-analysis of satellite data.
